Los Angeles artist, Mark Whalen, presents “Ramble Ramble,” a new collection of museum-inspired sculptures, at Over the Influence L.A. April 13 through May 26, 2019.
Mark Whalen, originally from Australia, has been constructing his thematic series of brightly colored sculptures — ranging in size from twelve inches to fourteen feet and created over eighteen months. “Ramble Ramble” marks the first installation of Whalen's contemporary work at Over the Influence.
The show's title, “Ramble Ramble” is a candid reflection of Mark’s thirteen-year fine art career, and how he continues to explore creative direction free of definitive planning.
Mark's artistic vision will be recognized as proficient handling of sculptural pieces that feature weighty, brightly-painted, and smoothly polished metallic objects. Each component acts as a contributing character in an ongoing diorama that invites the viewer to evaluate the scene and participate in a dialogue that investigates the sculpture's true meaning.
Ordinary objects transform our ordinary surroundings into witty, abstract musings that continue to ramble onward into deeper levels of artistic experience. Mark Whalen shares, “The ambiguity of all of the characters represents something I'm really excited to continue to pursue... Once configured, each subject uniquely contributes to their own individual architecture.”
