San Diego based mixed-media artist Lisa Bebi commemorates human stories using painted forms, typography, textures, and found objects. She puts together provocative yet relatable narratives that contain echoes of Dadaism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism -- but through the lens of her own fresh originality and perspective.
Collage Art, believe it or not, was initially coined by cubist artists Braque and Picasso who were working with a variety of different mediums to create avant-garde assemblages around 1910. This inventive art-making process continues today, and the visual narrative expands with Lisa Bebi’s contemporary art contributions.
Lisa shared with me that her work is sourced directly out of her personal family album. “I have been interested in my parent’s honeymoon photos since I was very young. My parents were perplexed as to why I would spend so many hours looking through all of them.”
Thankfully, Lisa Bebi’s story continues, providing further introspection. “Thinking now, I realize that their “together” history didn’t line up. My parent’s honeymoon was a road trip up and down the CA coast. That is fine, but they were recently from Nashville. Wait, except my dad, was from Cincinnati, and my mom was Nashville at the time.
